A gorgeous spot to hike not too far from the city and suburbs of the Denver metro area. Be aware, there are mountain lion warning signs everywhere. It's probably not a great place to bring your dog. I believe bikes are welcome though. When we went hiking I believe we saw a lepidopterist–cool! We didn't go super far due to physical limitations, but what we did see what both beautiful and easy to navigate. It's quiet and has all kinds of beautiful plants to look at. There are a few people around, which is comforting, but not so much that you would feel crammed. The view of the lakes are amazing to walk aside as well. I highly recommend visiting this area if you get the chance. Don't forget to bring water!

Tucked back off the beaten path with only a couple spots to park - incentive to walk from town and enjoy the views. Endless trails to explore - rocky and some steep inclines mixed with flats and narrow portions. Would not recommend e-bikes (1 couple did and had to turn around)

Did a 4.5 mile loop starting from this trailhead - East Shore trail to CDT CO Section 35. We were camping at Green Ridge CG and squeezed in this walk at 7 AM before our tween kids woke up. The trail along the lake was beautiful and peaceful. We were so busy looking at a pair of deer in the distance that we almost ran into a doe and her baby just feet off the trail. The section of the CDT that we took went through a grassy meadow. Very green with lots of flowers as it's been raining a lot this summer. Just a really pleasant stroll. Plus when we got back to camp, the kids were up and had eaten breakfast, cleaned the dishes and filled the water container. Amazing 🤩!

Beware hikers, you must share the trail with horses and bikes, and nothing makes this hike worth it. The area looks like a nuclear bomb went off as most trees are dead and/or lying down like someone spilled a box of match sticks. An odor that can't be described other than noxious rises from the water at certain spots (toxic algae, we guess). All day long jet skis rev rev rev rev rev all over the lake. Not a nature hike. Not pleasant in any way, unless you want a vivid reminder that the planet is doomed.

This is a trail walk around the edge of the lake, starting from the dam gate. The path is quite good, with no rocky bumps, but it's rather narrow, a one-way trail. I saw people cycling along it. It's suitable for beginner hikers, not advanced, as the path is well-maintained, not wet or muddy. One side is rainforest, the other is the lake. It's a pleasant walk without being too strenuous.
