A rainy, moody meadow stretches toward a misty pine forest and fog-shrouded Rocky Mountain peaks.

A beautiful meadow view and the Moose Meadows trail is easy access to the National Forest Service's Homestead Meadows. The first homestead you encounter is the Brown Homestead and the next is the Irwin Homestead. About 6 miles roundtrip. The staff of Hermit Park get 6-stars for the cleanest public facilities.

This is a glorious hike. Wild flowers are a treasure. A well maintained site. Go there.

I’m glad to know the trail is in good shape. Twenty years ago I worked with a crew to maintain it, and I came away with terrific memories. I was from Virginia, and it was my first trip to Colorado.

Good to get some elevation time before hiking Whitney. Plenty of parking and space to relax.
