My daughter wanted to come to The Stanley Hotel. She likes “The Shinning” and we wanted to check out the hotel that inspired this movie. It’s really neat and they even have a small maze outside. The 217 Wine bar is inside and the decor is very chic. They seated us right away but service was slow. Wine was really good and we enjoyed the views. There was a wedding event and it got crowded. But the ambiance is nice.

The older gentleman server name Jim (June 18, Saturday, 6:45 PM) was terrible. He took my order and totally forgot about me. It was just a drink. I was by myself. Not that complicated!!! After about 20 mins, he walked on the deck and saw me and remembered, turned right back and got my drink. Then he saw my water glass was empty and said: I will be right back to refill your water! And never returned!!! It has been another 20 mins now. Finally, I asked some girl to refill my water. He is probably the worst server I had in my entire life. Limoncello spritz was great!

We were really looking forward to visiting 217 Wine Bar at The Stanley Hotel. The setting is beautiful, the atmosphere has a lot of character, and we ordered one of the nicer champagnes on the sparkling wine list. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality or reputation of the hotel. When we arrived, there was a couch available in the corner, so we asked if we could sit there. The hostess said yes, but also said she might have to “ask us to move” if a larger party came in. We understood the seating concern, but the way it was communicated felt unwelcoming. After we sat down, waters were brought to us, but then no one came back for quite a while. I eventually had to get up and stand at the bar for several minutes just to get someone’s attention and place our order. Once the champagne was brought out, no one checked on us again for roughly 25–30 minutes. We were not asked if we needed anything else, how the champagne was, or whether we wanted another drink. When we were ready to leave, I had to ask for the check, and even then it took around 10 more minutes for someone to get it sorted out. For two drinks that cost about $50 at one of the nicest hotels in Estes Park, I expected much more attentive service. The bar itself is very nice, and the Stanley is obviously a special historic property, but our experience at 217 Wine Bar was disappointing. The service felt inattentive and disorganized, especially for an upscale hotel bar. I would consider returning to the hotel, but based on this visit, I would be hesitant to recommend the wine bar unless the service improves.

Pretty bizarre start. The guy who sat us was rude and suspicious from the moment he saw us. Idk if it was the way we were dressed but we were on a motorcycle if that says anything. He says to pick a seat on the patio so I asked if there was a spot they’d prefer and he was rude about that too even though his explanation that yes they do have a preference was exactly why I asked. 🙄 The married couple who sat next to us shortly after left quickly, seemed like they’d be a delight at parties and would probably get along really well with the first guy. Keep in mind that the restrooms are outside of the restaurant and downstairs from the main lobby. A bit of a hike to get there. lol. Apparently there was some argument over who would get the short straw and take care of us until this absolute OG server came in and handled business. The other servers look like they hate their lives. 😬 Ours was a true delight though and very good at his job. Completely made up for his co-workers’ shenanigans. His service is impeccable. I didn’t catch his name but he’s a silver fox! 😍 We didn’t have any issues with the wine selection being unavailable, as other reviewers stated, but we did both choose US wines just by chance. I don’t know if that matters. Food was awesome. We demolished the charcuterie board or plate. Whatever the smaller one is called on the menu. It was a struggle to finish between 2 people but we did it. Haha. Probably one of the best charcuterie I’ve ever had tbh. 👍 👍 The cheesecake is delicious perfection. Holy smokes. So good. Definitely do not skip if you like cheesecake and cherries. I’ll be back for sure!

gorgeous wine bar in the Stanley. definitely recommend the charcuterie. we tried the charc attack, came out with 3 levels, tons of fruit, olives and veggies! was perfect for a party of 4. the cocktails were also very good, I recommend the luxardo limenchello spritz
