Hard to find parking for this trail but the trail itself is awesome. Beautiful panoramic views, lots of friendly squirrels at the peak, and mule deer wondering around. Took us 3-4 hours with a nice long snack break at the peak. The trail is pretty steep and we did feel a bit short of breath and headachy by the time we were going down. Also no bathrooms at this trailhead.

Trail conditions varied quite a bit over my last trip there, from rocky/dry all the way to ice. Spikes are essential. Deer were out and about in the grasslands an hour before sunset. Weather was above normal temps, but last week was very windy and lots of snow. Layers essential. Def watch the switchbacks, can be easy to lose the path a couple of times. Gorgeous views, well worth the work put in. Special note: the park's rare piebald elk hang out here and in the road between here and the Estes entrance at dawn and dusk. You'll know them from their beautiful white faces and gorgeous sprawled antlers.

One of the best hikes we did in Rocky Mountain. Moderately difficult. Breathtaking views of Estes Park at the top. Great exercise.

We got to the trailhead at 6am on a Sunday, and it was not too crowded. It only has street parking and no bathrooms, so be prepared. The first 1.5 miles is open, wide trail, and amazing mountain views. We did not see any people for at least an hour. The middle 1 mile is in the forest, and the final 1/4 mile is a rough uphill, but well worth it.

Great hike with 360 views at the top! There are switchbacks and some steep inclines but if you are active and a hiker it’s a nice hike for the morning to get acclimated to the air while still seeing some great views at the top!
